Cougar Cub Roar

The following DES students and staff were mentioned and recognized at last night's School Board Meeting. A Big COUGAR CUB ROAR to all of them!

Students:

Kindergarten Student Vivian Courtway - For being crowned "Little Miss Military Star" for volunteering over 90 hours with several military and first responder based groups.

Fifth Grader Adrian Knowles - Adrian was named a Maine State Book Award Star Student for being one of the first ten students to read at least 20 of the Maine State Award Books.

Fifth Grader Garrison Holmquist - Garrison has become a published poet. One of his poems was recently selected to appear in the "Creative Communications: A Celebration for Today's Writers" Poetry Anthology.

Fifth Graders Adrian Knowles, Lydia Pingree, Aubrey Sneller, Griffin Holmquist and Garrison Holmquist for finishing in first place at the Maine Stem Film Challenge. They competed against 7 other teams in the grade 4/5 division and came out on top!

Staff:

Mrs. Petherbridge - Our librarian was able to secure a $1000 grant to bring a Maine author to DES in January.

Mrs. Johnson - One of our grade 3 teachers secured a $3300 grant to provide grade 3 students with access to the online math program called Reflex.

Ms. Curtis - our PE teacher for securing another Winter Kids Grant which helps provide winter equipment for our kids.

Ms. Buotte - she is our GT teacher who coached our grade 5 students who on the Maine Stem Film Challenge.
